National Standard ＂Requirements for Indoor Sports and Health Facilities for the Elderly＂Officially Released

On September 29, 2024, China’s State Market Regulatory Administration and the National Standardization Committee officially released the national standard GB/T 44691-2024, titled "Requirements for Indoor Sports and Health Facilities for the Elderly." This standard, developed under the guidance of the National Standardization Technical Committee of Sporting Goods (TC291), aims to assist manufacturers in the research, development, and production of age-friendly sports equipment, while also aiding users in procurement and implementation.
 
The new standard provides a scientific framework for the design, manufacturing, and inspection of indoor sports and health facilities tailored for the elderly, highlighting the government’s commitment to addressing the health needs of this demographic. Given the unique physical conditions of older adults, the standard emphasizes the importance of age-friendly features in sports equipment. It meticulously outlines structural requirements to ensure that these facilities are safe, accessible, and reliable, ultimately promoting the physical well-being of elderly users.
